IBC Mauritius along with the High Commission of India organised a talk on October 4, 2023 by Sanjeev Sanyal member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India. Sanjeev Sanyal is a prominent economist, historian, a prolific author, and a renowned speaker. He is currently a Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India (EAC-PM) and has been invited by the Indian Business Council, in collaboration with the High Commission of India, gave an enriching speech about ‘India’s Economic Acceleration: Decoding India’s $5 trillion quest and opportunities for Africa’…
Sanjeev Sanyal, in his address at the event, mentioned that India has the ambition of to lead the new world order and architecture away from the currently dominated North Atlantic agencies to build a South South cooperation. He questioned the Global Rating Agencies as also a number of Global institutions which have an inherent bias against the global south. He elaborated on the transformation of India in building a robust growth and its ambition of becoming the 3rd largest economy by 2027-28 from its current position of the 5th largest economy. India is already the 3rd largest economy in PPP terms. He believed that the African countries can benefit immensely in partnering with India. The recent inclusion of the African union to G-20 is a testimony to the importance and opportunity. Mauritius, he believed fits in well as it is the gateway to Africa for Indian capital.
Dr. Suresh Nanda, President, IBC in his introductory address mentioned that the founding members of IBC had a dream to come together with a vision to build a premier business association in Mauritius focusing on building a strong bridge between India, Mauritius, and Africa. The IBC members have a unique distinction of having in depth knowledge and experience of India, Mauritius also Africa. IBC’s endeavor is to enable India to grow strongly, and Africa to gain strength and significant increase global trade and business, with Mauritius playing the perfect bridge in linking the two growth engines.
In her remarks, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K Nandini Singla underlined that economic linkages form an important pillar of the privileged partnership between India and Mauritius. She also emphasized the idea of CECPA is to make Mauritius a springboard for Indian businesses and investments into Africa , tapping into the network of the Free Trade Agreements that Mauritius has with the African continent.
