The third talk series focused on new economy and the opportunities for Mauritius based companies to explore the vast African market in this segment using the local expertise as also the partnership opportunities with Indian companies. While traditionally we look at Mauritius as a gateway to Africa, our talk brought out as to how the Mauritian IT & technology sector has also penetrated into Europe. While IT and software entrepreneurs are generally for nerds and generally speak in Fortran, Java, Python, C+, Ruby, the speakers spoke in a language which was even understood by IBC members who had no understanding of the industry.
Mr. Jean-Michel Felix outlined his journey as am intrapreneur and the boredom that set in before taking up the start up role of setting up MCB Consulting from the scratch and making it a pan African IT consulting and banking software implementation company and its foray into Europe also. Mr. Vivek Mathur delved on his journey from moving to the island to set up a data center for a local company to his move to set up a cloud computing company using Microsoft technology, focusing on Mauritian talent and exploring not only the African market but also venturing to set up in UK.
