The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and the Indian Business Council (IBC) signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday, Monday August 8, at the MCCI headquarters. This new cooperation aims to consolidate relations between the business communities of the two countries, India and Mauritius. The agreement was signed by Dr. Suresh Nanda, Secretary, IBC and Dr. Yousouf Ismael, Secretary General, MCCI.

During the ceremony, the President of the MCCI, Namita Jagarnath-Hardowar, recalled the close ties that India and Mauritius share, particularly on the commercial level. She also focused on the sustained collaboration of the MCCI with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry since 1985 and 1995 respectively. The Secretary General of the MCCI, Dr Yousouf Ismaël, stressed that “if it is the government which makes political decisions, it is up to the private sector to work together. It is important to collaborate and find new opportunities, not only in terms of trade in products and services, but also in terms of investment. Mauritius has an important role to play in the region, especially with regard to the establishment of economic partnerships. He also highlighted that to date, some 1,800 Indian companies are established in Mauritius.

Dr. Suresh Nanda, Secretary IBC stressed that this memorandum of understanding establishes the foundations and direction of the collaboration between the two organizations. “This is a new chapter in the development of commercial relations. Our partnership with MCCI will include, among other things, the promotion and facilitation of commercial partnerships, investment and sharing of technical expertise in industry, agriculture, green energy, among others,” he said.

The Deputy High Commissioner of India, Vimarsh Aryan, declared that the memorandum of understanding between the MCCI and the IBC should not only consolidate B2B relations between the two entities, but also between the two countries .
